Matthew 6:1-4

1“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
I don't know about you but this was convicting. How often do we do things simply for a pat on the back? I know when I was in the work world, I had amazing work ethics and was praised by my boss and sought out by others who needed certain jobs done in a timely manner. I thrived in that atmosphere and worked harder because I became a praise junkie, and yet, according to the above Scripture, that is the only reward I will get for my good deeds and strong work ethics....praise from people on earth. There's no crown for that in the next life. I have received my reward. Now, as a stay at home mom, my work ethic has slacked a bit, my energy levels have tanked, my motivation to do a good job has faultered. Clearly, my mindset is focused on the temporal and not the eternal. I've bought into the "instant gratification mindset". Time to repent and kick that mindset to the curb! I am so incredibly thankful for Abba's grace as He opens my eyes to my own selfish behaviours and challenges me to run the race HE has set before me with all I have within me. To love Him with all my heart, soul and strength! Just one more lesson in becoming a bondservant to the Most High.
